Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)
SLT is a laser treatment used to lower the pressure inside the eye. It is now the first-line treatment for primary open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It can also be used alongside eye drops.

It is a helpful option if you struggle with using eye drops or find it difficult to apply drops consistently.

-
SLT is an outpatient procedure. On arrival, drops will be given to constrict the pupil. You will then be seated at a machine similar to the one used for examining the eye. Numbing drops will be applied and a special contact lens will be placed on the eye. You may see flashes of light and hear clicking sounds.
SLT is generally a safe procedure, but possible risks include mild inflammation and a temporary rise in eye pressure.
